Pitman Training Cork - Tutor Apprenticeship Programme

Pitman Training in Cork celebrated their first graduate from their Tutor Apprenticeship Programme this week.

The Apprenticeship Programme was established earlier this year to offer Pitman Training students an opportunity to gain invaluable work experience whilst completing a comprehensive training programme. Apprentices work side by side with experienced Tutors and Advisors at the centre where they assist in the day to day running of the centre and train to develop all of the necessary skills need to work as a confident and capable Pitman Training Centre Tutor.

The programme syllabus includes a range of Pitman Training courses so that each participant qualifies with a Pitman Training Diploma, as well certified training in Course Invigilation and Course Advising. The remainder of the programme consists of a range of modules ranging from Professional Enquiry handling and Course Knowledge to Career and Job Skills Support and Remarkable Student Service, as well as one to one training and mentoring from experienced Course Advisors and Tutors. The Programme takes between 15 to 26 weeks to complete depending on the number of hours the apprentice can spend in the centre (minimum 20 hours each week) as well as their existing Pitman Training qualifications.

Apprentices start with an equal division of time spent on training and work experience, but as the programme progresses, increasing time is spent in practical work experience until ultimately, the apprentice is working as a Tutor in the centre at the end of the programme.

Successful graduates from the programme are fully qualified and experienced Pitman Training Tutors and are provided with a comprehensive reference from the Director of the training centre. They can then add this qualification to their CV whilst bringing this invaluable experience and skillset to their future careers....perhaps with a Pitman Training centre!

Denise Jolley, a Pitman Training Advanced Accounts Diploma student from Dunkettle in Cork became the first graduate from the Apprenticeship Programme earlier this week after starting the programme last April and was presented with her Award Certificate by centre Director Tomás Finneran.

"Denise was a pleasure to deal with throughout the programme. Her enthusiasm was infectious and as she was the first to complete the Apprenticeship Programme, she provided some invaluable feedback and suggestions for future participants. As Denise progressed through her training, and first started working in the centre, she was naturally a little nervous helping other students, but she quickly grew more and more confident and we were delighted to hear so many positive comments from the many students she supported and advised with patience and professionalism."

He concluded, "Denise has proven to us that this Programme is worthwhile and gives participants so much more than just the usual work experience that you would expect from an internship. I'm sure she has paved the way for future Apprentices, and I have no doubt Denise's future career will be significantly enhanced by the friends she has made, what she has learned and the skills she has developed during the Apprenticeship."

The Apprenticeship programme is open to all Pitman Training students and graduates, and is currently running in the Pitman Training centres in Cork, Kerry and Waterford.
